CFM260S Baseplate Cooling & Cover Power Supply

CFM260S Baseplate Cooling & Cover Power Supply

Never Stop Improving Switching Power Supplies:

With the rapid change of power supply technology, the demand of high-efficiency and compact size power supplies with features like digital control, multitasking has been a great step forward in the fields such as industrial, telecom, medical, and consumer electronics. The efficiency and power density have the direct impact on temperature inside the end-user system. Therefore, Cincon has been dedicated to developing the high-quality power supplies with base-cooling design because heat dissipation is always a challenge. To solve this problem, Cincon has introduced a series of baseplate-cooling design power supplies as fanless power solution because of its advantage of conduction cooling. Today we are going to present you the CFM260S series which also has the optional case version.

Advantages of CFM260 Power Supply:

The heat energy is mainly generated by power and magnetic components. The structure of CFM260S is PFC+LLC and the efficiency is up to 93.5%, leading to less power loss and generation of heat. The CFM260S series has output power of 260W with 2” x 4” inches and output voltages of 12Vdc, 24Vdc, 36Vdc, 48Vdc. The higher power density makes CFM260S have size advantage while it is compared to the products with same output power.

In addition, the CFM260S provides full protections as follows:

• Over Temperature Protection

• Over Current Protection

• Over Voltage Protectio

• Continuous Short Circuit Protection (Auto-Recover)

The CFM260S series has IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 approvals, and EMC meets the requirement for heavy industrial use. Also, the CFM260S meets IEC/EN 60335-1 for household applications.

Advantages of Baseplate Cooling Structure:

Unlike other regular power supplies, the most remarkable feature of CFM260S is that it can direct the amount of heat energy to the bottom due to the baseplate-cooling design. You may see the difference from the photos below. In general, it may take more time for people using others to solve the heat dissipation issue. However, Cincon optimizes the heat dissipation technology of CFM260S by directing the heat to the bottom which is the system’s case. The CFM260S could save users from the trouble of dealing with the heat dissipation which may have greater chance to shorten user development time.

Baseplate Cooling & Cover Structure:

Below is the standard derating curve of CFM260S under the natural convection condition:

The output power could be more while the CFM260S is installed on the case of user’s device or an aluminum plate. The following are the experiments tested under natural convection condition. You may find the outstanding performance of baseplate-cooling.

Experiment 1:

CFM260S-B is screwed on an aluminum plate with size of 480 x 250 x 1mm to simulate the test which is run on user’s device.

Now you may see the component temperatures are under the limitation. Screwing the CFM260S-B on the aluminum plate would let the output power reach to 170W under the higher temperature of 70℃ due to the advantage of baseplate-cooling. In addition, for the experiment of the CFM260S with 12Vdc output and the highest output current in this series, it could still have the output power of 155W under the harsher condition of 115Vac input and 70℃.

Experiment 2:

CFM260S-C is screwed on an aluminum plate with size of 480 x 250 x 1mm to simulate the test which is run on user’s device.

Now you may see the component temperatures are under the limitation. Screwing the CFM260S-C on the aluminum plate would let the output power reach to 220W under the higher temperature of 70℃ due to the advantage of baseplate-cooling. In addition, for the experiment of the CFM260S with 12Vdc output and the highest output current in this series, it could still have the output power of 165W under the harsher condition of 115Vac input and 70℃.

Installation Instruction:

The CFM260S has mechanical design to be fixed on a metal plate or on the surface of user system case. For the cover version, there are two ways to screw the power supply, increasing the flexible choices of installation.

Mechanical Specification:

Conclusion:

The CFM260S series offers 260W output power with the compact size of 2” x 4” inches. The baseplate cooling design makes this series achieve the higher power density and improve the heat dissipation performance under fanless condition and higher ambient temperature. Furthermore, the CFM260S provides additional 12Vdc fan output pin with the protection to keep the main output working stably while the connected fan runs into the situation of malfunction and short circuit. Forced Air Flow Curve below shows the CFM260S could work at 260W with a fan. (Open Frame with 19CFM, Base & Case with 10 CFM) Whether or not to use a fan still depends on system environment. Some users evaluate the situation that it is accepted for them to use CFM260S under fanless condition. Nevertheless, the CFM260S series shows the flexibility and stability in various system environments with different setup choices, such as baseplate type, cover type, or either one connected with a fan.
